Are you using the 3 types of Sprint Goals?

Why stretching, targeting and committing all have there place for team planning.

Different goals act as a barometer for the appetite of your teams.

Sometimes they can be ambitious; other times, conservative.

It’s not about “what is best” — it’s about having options to make things sustainable.

  • Stretch goal: “What would happen if we could achieve something extraordinary this sprint or quarter?”

  • Target goal: “What do we hope to achieve?”

  • Commit goal: “What do we think we will definitely accomplish?”A commit goal says “ what are we do think we will accomplish ?

I’ve seen this thinking model in action a few times and I really like how it helps teams make decisions and manages expectations.

This work was shown to me in a gig not too long ago and is inspired by the work of Ben Lamorte.
